The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that four local government areas in Borno State remain insecure for the 2025/2026 continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise. Abadam, Guzamala, Kala-Balge, and Marte local government areas will not conduct the exercise at their headquarters due to security concerns. Resident Electoral Commissioner of Borno, Abubakar Ahmed Maaji, disclosed this during a press conference in Maiduguri on Friday, August 15. He said, Please note that for security and factors relating to safety, four INEC LGA offices will conduct the physical (In-person) registration at locations within the Maiduguri metropolis. Eligible residents from Abadam are to register at Yerwa Peace, Baga Road, Maiduguri. Those from Guzamala will register at the Fire Service Department, 1,000 Housing Estate, Maiduguri, while residents from Kala-Balge will participate at Goni Kachallari Primary School, Mafa Road, Maiduguri. Marte residents are directed to Kachamari, opposite Shettiram Filling Station, Gamboru-Ngala Road, Maiduguri. Maaji outlined that the CVR exercise will be conducted in three phases. Phase 1 runs from 28th August 10th December, with the register to be displayed from 15th December 21st December. Phase two is 5th January 17th April, 2026 with the register to be displayed 20th April 26th April, 2026; and Phase 3 4th May 17th August, with the register to be displayed 24th August 30th August 2026, he said. Describing the exercise as a national call to civic duty, Maaji said, This exercise is a national call to civic duty, and we are committed to ensuring every eligible citizen has the opportunity to participate.
